Lee Hyori Reflects on Housewife Life: Cooks for Husband Every Day, Feels Mentally Lonely
On January 16, Lee Hyori appeared on MBC FM4U’s “Perfect Day with Lee Sang Soon” and shared her recent life as a housewife.
During the broadcast, Lee Hyori expressed her happiness about being able to participate, saying, “I usually just listen at home, but it’s nice to be able to join today. I can check on what my husband is doing by listening to the radio every day at home, so I’m happy. I listen with the thought of praying every day to make sure he’s not saying anything strange.”
When Lee Sang Soon asked her about any changes, Lee Hyori responded, “Lee Sang Soon is always so calm, so there hasn’t been much change. But that’s what I really love about him. There haven’t been any major changes as a DJ either, but I think listeners will like it. If it becomes too familiar, his fresh and pure vibe will disappear, so I think this is good. I believe a little mistake is what makes perfection.”
Lee Hyori continued, “It’s been about two months since Lee Sang Soon started DJing, and it’s been about two months since I started cooking for him. My cooking skills have been improving. I truly respect all the housewives in Korea. Choosing the menu is tough. From my perspective, I really want to cook different dishes.” She continued, “I even went to Noryangjin Fish Market and bought 40 deodeok fish. I couldn’t manage the portions. I ended up buying 160 fish over three trips, half-dried them, and grilled them for him. He said it felt like eggs were going to come out of his mouth.”
She added, “I realized I’m a big-handed cook“, to which Lee Sang Soon responded, “You have big hands and work really fast, so you make a lot of side dishes. I’m fine with just one or two simple ones.”
Lee Hyori laughed and said, “I always try to make one more side dish, but hearing this reaction, I realized that being a housewife isn’t physically exhausting, but mentally lonely.”
Lee Hyori and Lee Sang Soon got married in September 2013. After their marriage, the couple kept their personal life quite private, staying away from the spotlight and the media. Lee Hyori participated less in entertainment activities after marriage. It wasn’t until a few years ago that Lee Hyori began to spend more time participating in game shows and some reality television programs.
